Chinese Gravesite

About 11 miles east of Hawthorne, this largely forgotten and unnoticed gravesite sits along the north shoulder of US-95. Though little is known, it is probable that this Chinaman was a worker on the Carson & Colorado Railroad, as the old rail line is just 200 feet away. The original 5-foot tall marker is at the Mineral County Museum for protection, and though largely illegible has been transcribed as reading "Grave of (unknown) from Poon Yup." (Poon Yup, now Panyu, is a part of Guangzhou).
