Smith's Station
(Stone House)

L.D. Smith built the picturesque "Stone House" in the early 1860s to serve as a station on the Belmont-Austin stage route. Though Smith was shot and killed by an employee in 1869, his wife continued to operate the station, during which time it was known as Widow Smith's. She sold to M.W. Corcoran in the 1880s, and in the 1890s the station was sold to the Hoopers - a Native American family - who constructed new outbuildings and used the property as a ranch through the 1960s.
