Massie

Massie was a station and siding along the Southern Pacific Railroad established c.1903 (note that although a Massie post office existed for a month in late 1902, it is unknown if it was here or at Hot Springs on the old Central Pacific line). In its infancy, Massie was an important station which serviced the new town of Fallon, sixteen miles distant, with a fast freight line operated by Frank Days. It was believed that a town would develop, and Massie was planned to become the junction point for a new railroad branch to Fallon. By the end of 1904, however, SP moved its station and telegraph office to Hazen and, especially after completion of a new water reservoir there in 1907, Massie's importance quickly faded. The siding remains in use, but only foundations remain of the station and town that could have been.
