Bard

Bard was a non-agency station on the San Pedro, Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad (the "Salt Lake Route", later part of the Union Pacific) named for the nearby Bard Mining District, which was apparently named for one of two men: noted mining engineer, geologist and prospector D.C. Bard or Senator Thomas Bard of California. Though the railroad reached the area in 1904, only a temporary shoo-fly was built while construction of the grade was completed over the summit between Las Vegas and Ivanpah Valleys. The permanent line was completed in May 1905, and Bard lasted until 1945 before it was abandoned.
