Gold Butte National Monument
Covering nearly 300,000 acres of remote Nevada wilderness, Gold Butte National Monument was established by President Barack Obama on December 28, 2016 under the Antiquities Act. It takes its name for the Gold Butte mining district, located near the monument's center. In addition to historic mines and ghost towns, Gold Butte is home to Native American cultural sites dating back as far as 12,000 years and a unique natural landscape of sandstone formations, sinkholes, and other oddities. Several days could be spent exploring the monument and its many trails (both hiking and offroad).
