Poinsettia Mine

Cinnabar ore was first discovered here in 1929, and in the early 1930s Vet Baxter came into possession of the claims. Work was done in two shafts, most development coming from one that was 175-foot deep. Development continued on a small scale until about 1944, and a small camp was built (although no businesses were ever opened). Baxter would continue to own property until his death in 1973, and since then the property has served and been taken care of by a Boy Scout troop from Hawthorne.
