Jewish (Hebrew) Cemetery
In 1862, the Eureka (Hebrew) Society secured a plot of land below Cedar Hill for use as a Jewish cemetery. The first interrment in the new cemetery was that of little Adelia Adler in January 1863. Over the next 34 years, about 24 made this their final resting place. After the turn of the century and with the decline of Virginia City, the cemetery was neglected and acts of antisemitic vandalism left all but one headstone damaged or missing. In recent years, the Comstock Cemetery Foundation had undertaken a massive cleanup and restoration, replacing many of the missing markers with new, black granite headstones.
