Salinas

The Salina Mining District was located in 1880 and named for the salt flats in the area. A small townsite called Salinas (also referred to as Emma City in one record) came into being and held a post office for over two years. Despite that, it doesn't show up on state maps from those years, so it apparently never achieved any prominence. Little else is written about the district, but according to Grant it was "located in Cox Canyon and...northeast of North Nutgrass Lake", leading me to believe that the ruins in Cox Canyon probably date to that time. It is possible that the 1880s mill at Mill Canyon was also related to this district.

Note: This Salina Mining District should not be confused with the other Salina or Salinas district in Churchill County, apparently an early name for the Bernice district nearly 30 miles away.
