Hess Ranch - The Hess Ranch was started by Jacob Hess sometime around 1880. In 1900 Hess lost his wife Helena and decided to sell. The ranch was sold to J.R. Wilson, and then again to Patrick Walsh, who owned the Home Ranch to the north. In 1910 a handsome 16-room brick house was built at the ranch. Sometime in the 1940s, the ranch was sold to Roy Visbeek when the Walsh family moved to Reno. Since then, the ranch has passed through other hands.
Dyer Ranch - Little is known about the old Dyer Ranch. At some point, it also belonged to Will Walsh.
Unknown Homestead - This old homestead sits on the Yomba Indian Reservation between the Dyer and Bowler Ranches.
Bowler Ranch - The ranch of John F. Bowler was the first ranch to become part of the Yomba Indian Reservation when it was purchased in November 1937 at a cost of $19,600.
O'Toole Ranch - This ranch was originally owned by the Barretts, who ran a stage station there in the 1870s and 80s. Sometime prior to 1904, it was acquired by Joseph Walsh, who had a brick home built by John Wholey for his new bride, Kate. In 1924 or 25, Joe accidentally shot himself in the corral, and the ranch was purchased by Bartley O'Toole. The O'Toole family owned the ranch until the mid-to-late 2000s.
Reese River Guard Station - The Reese River Guard Station was established c.1916 or 17, to serve as the year-round headquarters for surrounding districts. Two years later, a kit home by the Pacific Portable Construction Company was assembled. Numerous improvements were made through the 1920s, and in 1935 a CCC Camp was established, lasting until 1942. During this time, the CCC projects included constructing the Kingston Guard Station as well as the Big Creek Road. The ranger station was used until at least the 1970s, but I haven't been able to locate when it was finally abandoned.
Dieringer Ranch - This old brick ranch house sits in the heart of the Yomba Indian Reservation. I believe it was the old Dieringer Ranch, purchased by the Yomba Indian Reservation in 1940 for $12,620.
