Benton's Fort

Earlier known as Moore's Station and Cottonwood, Benton's Fort or Benton's Station was a stop on the Wadsworth-Columbus Freight Route operated by John R. Benton and his stepson, Charles E. Kennedy. A toll house was located here. Kennedy later went on to discover gold in Pershing County, and the camp of Kennedy bore his name until the 1940's.
