Silverton
In 1912, Italian immigrant J.C. Tognoni discovered silver ore on the volcanic field west of Railroad Valley. He developed the springs there and, after 1918, began actively working claims with Harry Stimler (of Goldfield fame). 100 claims were filed by the Tognoni family and, by 1920, the camp of Silverton was born with a store operated by Chiatovich & Beko. By 1923, Stimler's association with Silverton came to an end, but the Tognonis continued to work the mine until around 1940, extracting some $20,000. Despite the limited success, Silverton continues to hold importance to the Tognoni family and a private cemetery near the site is still in occasional use.
